Adoptive and Foster Families of Maine, Inc. (AFFM) provides support services for adoptive and foster parents, and kinship providers. AFFM provides the training, guidance, knowledge, and resources needed to handle complex issues as families open their hearts and homes to children. AFFM is dedicated to assisting families to help children find the security they deserve and helps prepare families for the challenges they will face. One such season that can be especially challenging for families and children is Christmas.
To provide for children during the holiday season, AFFM runs their annual Holiday Gift Giving Program. This effort provides foster and adopted children with holiday gifts they otherwise very well may never receive. Some children in this program get their first ever Christmas gifts due to the community’s gracious contributions. Each November, the employees of Bangor Federal get together to raise money and collect toys in support of AFFM’s Christmas Gift Giving program.
This year, Bangor Federal made Christmas a little brighter for kids in foster care by donating toys for 12 children, stockings for 13 more, and presenting the organization with a check for $645! The need grows more and more every year with the AFFM office in Bangor covering children from Bangor to Madawaska, Calais to Jackman, and everywhere in-between.
